Ford Unveils New World Headquarters in Dearborn

Ford Motor Company is set to move into a new headquarters building as part of a larger campus development. The new Ford World Headquarters, named the Henry Ford II World Center, will be located near the company's Research and Engineering, and Trackside testing operations facilities in Dearborn, Michigan.

The new building, nicknamed the Glass House, will span across 2.1 million square feet and accommodate up to 4,000 people. It will have four floors, but a neighbouring structure will add an additional eight floors, bringing the total capacity to 2,000 employees. This new campus is designed with a modern footprint to ease the development of Fords of the future.

The Glass House is set to replace the current global headquarters, which was built in 1956 and measures 950,000 square feet. The old building, also known as the Glass House, will be demolished in 18 months. The demolition will pave the way for new park and green spaces, with the Dearborn city government and local urban planning institutions involved in the planning process.

The new building is aesthetically tied to Ford's Plus strategy, which aims to redefine the company's approach to mobility, electrification, and digital services. The Glass House will feature new studios, garages, and fabrication shops, and it will also incorporate eco-friendly elements such as solar panels and a central energy plant that supplies hot water and steam.

Ford has also announced that the new Ford World Headquarters will strive to be a net-zero energy usage facility. The company is working with the city of Dearborn on plans for the site after the Glass House is demolished.

The new campus is expected to open in November 2022, with the overall construction of the new Ford World Headquarters building scheduled to be completed by 2027. This move marks a significant step forward for Ford as it continues to shape its future in the automotive industry.
