Former CEA Highlights Digital Integration's Role in Jaipur's Manufacturing Boom; Bengaluru's Infrastructure Woes Persist

Arvind Virmani, former Chief Economic Adviser, recently visited manufacturing units in Jaipur's Special Economic Zones and a RICO industrial area. During his visit, he highlighted the potential of digital integration to significantly improve automaticity in these units. Meanwhile, Krishna Kumar Gowda, General Secretary of Greater Bengaluru IT Companies & Industries Association, expressed concern over the neglect of infrastructure along the Outer Ring Road in Bengaluru.

Virmani praised the range of exports from the units he visited but suggested that improvements in local infrastructure could yield even better results. He highlighted the potential of digital integration to improve automaticity by 10 times in these units. Two small and medium enterprises in Jaipur were praised for designing and manufacturing their own machinery for export-quality goods.

In Bengaluru, Gowda expressed deep concern over the continued neglect of infrastructure along the Outer Ring Road. He noted that worsening traffic congestion and safety hazards were affecting IT companies and industries in the Greater Bengaluru area. Earlier this year, entrepreneurs and residents in Gurugram also faced disruptions due to waterlogging and road cave-ins. Complaints have mounted against crumbling infrastructures in cities like Gurugram and Bengaluru, with BlackBuck co-founder Rajesh Yabaji announcing the company's relocation from Bellandur in Bengaluru due to poor road conditions and worsening commute times.

Virmani's visit to Jaipur's manufacturing units brought attention to the potential of digital integration in improving productivity. However, he also emphasized the need for local infrastructure improvements to support these advancements. Gowda's concerns over Bengaluru's infrastructure highlight the broader issue of crumbling infrastructure in major cities, which can disrupt businesses and daily life.
