Hadrian, a US-based defense tech startup, has raised an impressive $260 million in funding, marking a significant milestone in its mission to modernize the American defense manufacturing base.

The innovative startup's approach centers on building highly automated, AI-powered factories. These factories, equipped with proprietary software (Opus), enable rapid, scalable production of precision components and mission-critical systems for the aerospace and defense sectors. This "Factories-as-a-Service" model covers the entire advanced manufacturing stack—from raw materials to finished products—and supports the production of everything from individual components to full assemblies and platforms like rockets, satellites, jets, drones, munitions, shipbuilding, and naval defense systems.

The funding, which includes $110 million in equity from top-tier venture capital firms and $150 million in non-dilutive debt, will be used to build two new factories, including a 100,000 sq ft flagship site. The capital will also help Hadrian scale to meet rising demand from defense and aerospace clients, expand its robotics and software teams, and advance material science research for thermal-resistant components.

The debt portion of the raise reflects investor confidence in Hadrian's strong revenue model. The funding round was led by Founders Fund and Lux Capital, and included Andreessen Horowitz, Construct Capital, and Lachy Groom.

Hadrian's factories are designed to meet the evolving needs of modern warfare, including drones and hypersonic weapons. Several Department of Defense units are exploring direct partnerships with Hadrian to speed up project delivery and secure supply lines.

By accelerating part delivery up to 10 times faster compared to traditional owner-operated machine shops, Hadrian significantly reduces lead times for U.S. Space & Defense manufacturers. The startup also aims to halve the cost of manufacturing complex aerospace and defense components, improving affordability and supply chain efficiency.

The use of AI and automation in Hadrian's factories optimizes CNC programming, process improvement, quality inspection, and system-wide manufacturing workflows, resulting in highly repeatable, simple, and accurate production processes. This transformative approach impacts production by creating new manufacturing capacity, securing American industrial leadership, and offering a more resilient and scalable industrial base.
