Fundraising Initiative Achieves Success: Organization's Campaign Gathers an Impressive 53 Million Euros
Sono Group N.V., a trailblazing solar electric vehicle company based in Munich, has made significant progress since its successful community funding campaign in 2020. The company, which is traded on the OTCQB under the ticker symbol SEVCF, has been working tirelessly to accelerate the revolution of mobility by making every vehicle solar.
In January 2020, Sono Group garnered attention by raising €53 million through community funding, surpassing its target of 50 million euros. The funds were primarily sourced from reservation holders of the Sion, the first solar electric vehicle, with around 75 percent of the total coming from these reservation holders. Approximately 19 percent of the funds came from new and existing investors, while around 6 percent were from loans and donations.
The community was given the option to decide whether to continue the "project Sion". Laurin Hahn, CEO and co-founder of Sono Group, stated that it is their responsibility to live up to the trust placed in them by their supporters.
In Q1 2025, Sono Group reported its first revenues following a financial turnaround, marking the initial commercialization of its solar technology. This was accompanied by a profit of €8.8 million, primarily due to fair value adjustments to convertible debt instruments[1]. The company has been actively engaging in public events, including presentations at the Emerging Growth Conference and the Small Cap Virtual Investor Conference, to update investors on business developments, strategic partnerships, and plans for a Nasdaq uplisting[2][3].
Sono Group is focusing on scaling its solar technology across the commercial vehicle sector. This includes showcasing its solar solutions at industry events like the UITP Summit, where they demonstrated their solar bus kits designed to reduce emissions and costs for fleet operators[3]. Sono Group offers a range of solar integration solutions, including solar kits for various vehicles and solar charge controllers, designed to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of electric vehicles.
Sono Group's disruptive solar technology can be seamlessly integrated into various vehicle architectures, including third-party OEM cars, buses, refrigerated vehicles, and recreational vehicles. The integration of Sono Group's technology aims to extend vehicle range, reduce fuel costs, and decrease CO2 emissions, promoting climate-friendly mobility.
As part of its mission, Sono Group plans to produce 257,000 Sion over a period of seven years at the former Saab plant in Trollhättan, Sweden. As of mid-2025, Sono Group currently has 13,000 reservations for the Sion.
