Google & IIT Madras Use AI to Predict Maternal Healthcare Dropouts; Launch Sounds of India App

Tech giant Google and Indian Institute of Technology Madras have teamed up with nonprofit ARMMAN to predict the risk of expectant mothers abandoning healthcare programmes using AI. Meanwhile, Google has launched an AI-powered web app, Sounds of Gemini, that transforms users' voices into traditional Indian instruments while singing the national anthem.

The collaborative project between ARMMAN and IIT Madras aims to predict the risk of pregnant women dropping out of healthcare programmes. They are employing AI to identify potential issues and provide timely interventions.

Google's latest innovation, Sounds of Gemini, uses machine learning models built with TensorFlow to convert users' voices into the sounds of Bansuri, Shehnai, or Sarangi when singing Jana Gana Mana. The app, launched in partnership with Prasar Bharati and Virtual Bharat, offers a unique and engaging experience for users.

In addition to its creative applications, Google is also using AI for critical tasks such as flood forecasting. Its tools send alerts to millions of people and analyze satellite imagery to aid in restoring water bodies and protecting forest cover. The company has partnered with the Indian government to expand the benefits of AI to more citizens.

Google Research India, based in Bengaluru, is dedicated to advancing AI research and applying it to tackle India's most pressing challenges. The lab is working with various partners, including Aravind Eye Hospital and Sankara Nethralaya, to apply AI in screening for diabetic retinopathy. Furthermore, Wadhwani AI, supported by Google.org's AI Impact Challenge and Launchpad Accelerator, is rolling out a solution to detect bollworm, helping farmers monitor pests and enhance crop yield.

Google's collaborations with ARMMAN and IIT Madras aim to improve maternal healthcare through AI prediction. The launch of Sounds of Gemini offers an innovative way to engage with the national anthem. Google's broader AI initiatives, including flood forecasting, healthcare screening, and pest detection, demonstrate its commitment to using technology for societal benefit.
