Google introduces AI Health Coach on Pixel Watch 4, surpassing expectations of Apple Watch 11's health features

In the realm of wearable technology, two tech giants, Google and Apple, are making significant strides in health and fitness features.

Google has recently launched a new Fitbit personal health coach on the Pixel Watch 4, powered by Gemini. This AI-based health coach, named Google Assistant, offers a chatbot feature that provides personalised health advice and guidance, analysing data from third-party devices and apps. The user, who has a list of chronic conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and muscular issues after spinal fusion surgery, acknowledges the need to test the accuracy of the Fitbit personal health coach's recommendations against accredited recommendations for specific conditions.

Meanwhile, Apple has been making its own strides. At their latest event, they unveiled the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE 3, all running on watchOS 26. The Apple Watch 11, in particular, offers hypertension alerts, a feature that could be life-saving for many users with high blood pressure.

Apple has also improved the sleep capabilities of their watches, offering an expanded Sleep Score and detailed sleep reports. Instead of an AI health coach, Apple launched Workout Buddy, an AI-powered coach that takes effect during specific workouts. Workout Buddy provides encouragement with detailed stats, key information, and motivational pep talks during workouts.

Interestingly, before WWDC 2025, rumours circulated that Apple was planning to launch an AI-powered health coach. It now appears that they may have been discussing this with Google, as reports suggest that Apple is in discussions with Google to use Gemini to power many Apple Intelligence features.

Google and Samsung, too, have refined their smartwatch offerings and launched new features. The Pixel Watch 4, for instance, boasts larger batteries, faster charging, and emergency satellite communication capabilities.

The user expresses excitement about the Fitbit personal health coach for its potential to help measure and analyse health metrics. The coach can deliver custom workout routines to achieve specific goals and adjust them based on real-time data and daily insights. The user's chronic conditions, however, necessitate a thorough evaluation of the accuracy of the coach's recommendations.

On the pricing front, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is available at twice the price of the Pixel Watch 4. Despite this, both companies continue to push the boundaries of what wearable technology can do for our health and fitness.
