The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ather Energy Limited, an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. This partnership is part of the Build in Bharat initiative led by the Startup Policy Forum (SPF).

Shweta Rajpal Kohli, President and CEO of the Startup Policy Forum, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, stating that it brings to life the Startup Policy Forum's Build in Bharat initiative. Ms. Kohli is a public policy and media professional who serves as the President and CEO of the Startup Policy Forum, an alliance focused on policy advocacy, community building, and positioning Indian startups globally, particularly supporting the deeptech startup ecosystem in India.

Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Sanjiv Singh shared similar sentiments, expressing that the electric mobility sector in India is entering a transformative phase. He also highlighted that unlocking the potential of India's manufacturing sector through collaboration is key to building a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.

Under the MoU, both parties will co-host talent and skill development initiatives, joint innovation programs such as the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge, and offer infrastructure support for startups in the EV value chain. They will also provide strategic mentorship for deeptech startups, and participation in events like Startup Mahakumbh is part of the collaboration.

On-ground exposure visits are also part of the MoU, with the goal of supporting India's transition towards sustainable transport and creating a more enabling environment for manufacturing-oriented startups. Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, stated that they are happy to collaborate with DPIIT to strengthen support systems for hardware and deep-tech startups.

With policy support and stronger industry participation, according to Ather Energy's CEO, this initiative can help founders tackle core technology challenges and scale high-quality products from India. The collaboration aims to accelerate the growth of India's clean mobility and advanced manufacturing sectors, and DPIIT and Ather Energy aim to catalyse the development of an enabling environment for startups to contribute to EV manufacturing, battery innovation, and clean energy solutions.

Ather Energy, an EV maker, competes with Ola Electric in the Indian market. This partnership is expected to foster innovation and growth in the clean mobility sector, contributing to India's goal of achieving sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.
