Hannover Police Campaign Finds 53% of Cyclists Breaking Rules
Hannover Police Headquarters has completed a week-long targeted road safety campaign. The initiative focused on cyclists and e-bikers, with a total of 683 individuals checked.
The campaign revealed several safety concerns. Out of the 683 cyclists and e-bikers checked, 362 were found committing traffic violations. Notably, 94 cyclists disregarded pedestrian zones, while 64 used mobile phones while cycling, both of which are illegal. Additionally, 23 cyclists failed to respect the right of way.
The campaign also highlighted technical issues, with 107 bicycles found unroadworthy due to technical defects. E-bikes, however, showed no such issues. In terms of accident prevention, six events were held, educating over 200 participants on safety measures. Furthermore, 163 traffic violations specifically affecting cyclists were recorded, with 64 instances of disregarding the right of way.
The Hannover Police, appealing to all road users, emphasizes the importance of mutual awareness and adherence to traffic rules. The campaign's findings underscore the need for improved safety measures and education, particularly regarding pedestrian zones and mobile phone usage while cycling.
