High-powered zoom lens with a magnification of 16.6x now covers both ultra-wide to telephoto ranges for Canon RF and Nikon Z camera systems, marking its long-awaited arrival.
New Tamron 18-300mm Lens Now Available for Canon RF and Nikon Z Mounts
In an exciting development for photographers, Tamron has announced the release of their 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD lens, which is now compatible with Canon RF and Nikon Z mounts. This versatile lens offers a 16.6x zoom ratio, making it ideal for travel photography and a wide range of shooting scenarios.
The lens takes up about a five-inch slot in a camera bag and accepts 67mm filters at the front. It is constructed from 19 elements in 15 groups and features a seven-blade circular aperture. The lens delivers a full-frame equivalent focal length of 27-450mm (28.8-480 on Canon RF).
The lens retails for $629 / £529 / AU$1,149 and offers a maximum 1:2 magnification ratio at 18mm, extending to half macro photography. It is moisture-resistant and has fluorine coating on the front to protect the glass.
The lens offers quick and efficient autofocus performance, thanks to its linear autofocus motor. Both the Nikon and Canon mounts can be updated using Tamron Lens Utility when new firmware is released.
The Canon RF Mount variant of the lens will be available starting September 26, while the Nikon Z Mount variant will be available starting August 28.
Hillary K. Grigonis, who leads the US coverage for Digital Camera World and has over a decade of experience writing about cameras and technology, has tested the lens. Grigonis is a former Nikon shooter and a current Fujifilm user, but has tested a wide range of cameras and lenses across multiple brands.
Key differences between the Canon RF and Nikon Z mount versions of the Tamron 18-300mm lens and the earlier Sony E (and possibly Fujifilm X) mount versions lie mainly in the mount compatibility and lens optimizations for APS-C mirrorless systems from Canon and Nikon.
