LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Unveils Immersive Audio System at Woodland Village's Clubhouse

The LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has recently announced the opening of its newest accommodation, Woodland Village, and at its heart lies The Clubhouse Restaurant and Bar, which boasts an innovative and immersive audio system.

David Shepherd of DS Audio led the sound design for The Clubhouse at Woodland Village. Shepherd collaborated with JPSL integrators to design and install a full EM Acoustics system for background audio and onstage performances. The system is fully integrated into the existing Resort-wide Q-SYS ecosystem.

The system provides high intelligibility, immersive sound, and versatility, catering to the requirements of The Clubhouse. Four DiQ10D amplifiers from EM Acoustics are used to power the loudspeakers, with each loudspeaker on its own channel for independent control. Over a dozen audio stems of varying lengths and formats were created by David Shepherd to produce an immersive soundscape with birdsongs and woodland nature sounds.

Each audio stem has its own mapped route of loudspeakers to travel across the space, with this logic installed into the Q-SYS System. The system can create the perfect background atmosphere and also deliver audio for nightly entertainment and bigger events if needed.

The Clubhouse space was split into four audio zones for effective sound design and management. The remaining zones 2-4 of The Clubhouse at Woodland Village are equipped with a total of 48 EMS-41 loudspeakers and three S-48 subwoofers for low-end reinforcement. The system integrates into the site-wide Q-SYS infrastructure, allowing for seamless control and management.

An Allen and Heath mixing console and Sennheiser EWDx mics are provided for hosting family-friendly performances at The Clubhouse. The Clubhouse is also equipped with EMS-81Xs, S-48 subwoofer, and EMS-61 for stage foldback and monitoring.

As visitors pass through The Clubhouse, the sounds of nature appear to move with them, creating an unforgettable experience, especially for younger clientele. The accuracy of EM Acoustics loudspeakers in reproducing sounds has been crucial to the success of the project, particularly in replicating a British woodland.

The immersive audio system used in The Clubhouse Restaurant and Bar complements the Lego-themed environment, which features mini shops, a bar, restaurant seating, and Lego and Duplo play stations for families to enjoy. The audio system helps create a vibrant, interactive ambiance where families can relax, socialize, and engage with Lego activities in a highly themed setting, enhancing the overall sensory experience and making guests feel more immersed in the Woodland Village environment.

Since its recent inauguration, the sound system at The Clubhouse has already received significant attention and positive feedback. The system contributes to enhancing the guest experience by immersing visitors in a carefully crafted soundscape that supports the visual Lego theming, encouraging longer stays and a more memorable experience tailored for families and children at the venue.
