In 2025, Huawei Cloud plays a significant leadership and contributor role in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). The Chinese cloud provider actively participates in 82 CNCF projects, holds more than 20 project maintainer seats, and is the only Chinese cloud provider with a vice-chair position on the CNCF Technical Oversight Committee (TOC).

Huawei Cloud's contributions to CNCF span across various projects and roles. As an active open-source contributor, it has donated key open-source projects to CNCF, including KubeEdge, Karmada, Volcano, and Kuasar. In 2024, the company also contributed benchmark projects like Kmesh, openGemini, and Sermant.

Huawei's contributions bolster the cloud-native ecosystem with innovations especially in container management, AI container technology, distributed cloud-native services, and edge/cloud hybrid solutions. The company's deep expertise in cloud-native technologies has also earned it a leader position in Gartner’s 2025 Magic Quadrant for Container Management, highlighting its Cloud Native 2.0 capabilities and global innovation with products like CCE Turbo, CCE Autopilot, Cloud Container Instance (CCI), and UCS.

While the specific roles and contributions of Huawei Cloud within each of the donated projects (KubeEdge, Karmada, Volcano, Kuasar, Kmesh, openGemini, and Sermant) are not detailed, the company's active role in CNCF reflects both strategic leadership in governance and substantial technological contributions advancing open-source cloud-native infrastructure worldwide.
