Huge 364-foot superyacht designed for seamless integration of cruising and scientific exploration revealed

In the world of luxury superyachts, Oceanco's latest creation, Leviathan, is turning heads with its unique design and sustainability features. Scheduled to begin sea trials soon, this 364-foot vessel is set to redefine the standards of modern yachting.

Leviathan's design philosophy is centred around human wellbeing, sustainability, and purposeful innovation. Key design elements include the use of durable, low-maintenance materials such as composite capping rails and decks, honed stone surfaces, natural wool carpets, and full-height glass bulkheads. These choices replace traditional high-maintenance materials like teak decks and polished wooden handrails, significantly lowering routine upkeep demands.

Sustainability is at the heart of Leviathan's design. It boasts a diesel-electric propulsion system paired with a large battery energy storage system, enabling quieter, emission-free operation for extended periods. The yacht also incorporates a waste heat recovery system and advanced wastewater treatment to meet stringent environmental standards.

These design and sustainability choices contribute to a more user-friendly experience by reducing repetitive and low-value maintenance tasks, freeing crew to focus on guest services, scientific research, and smooth operations. The crew was involved early in the design process to ensure functionality and comfort, enhancing crew wellbeing and operational efficiency.

Leviathan offers flexible social and operational spaces, such as shared crew and dining areas that encourage interaction when appropriate, and broad terraces with easy access to water for recreation. The yacht's architecture, by Lateral Naval Architects and Oceanco, and interiors by Mark Berryman Design, enhance natural light and openness through large glass panes and clean design lines, improving the onboard ambiance and creating more pleasant living and working environments.

Michael Verdon, Aviation and Marine Editor for a leading website, has been following Leviathan's development. Verdon, who has written about various boats for 30 years and has edited five national boating magazines, notes that Leviathan sets new benchmarks for luxury superyachts by integrating eco-conscious technologies and operational simplicity without compromising luxury or performance.

Currently, Oceanco has four projects over 80 meters under construction, including the recently launched project Y726. More details about Leviathan will be released after the sea trials. The company, a Dutch brand specializing in building superyachts, continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in luxury maritime design.
