Hyundai Announces Integration of Pleos Mobility Software under Its Brands at the Pleos 25 Event

Hyundai Motor Group has taken a significant step towards becoming a mobility tech company with the introduction of its new software brand, Pleos. The vision for Pleos is to create a "Cloud Mobility" ecosystem, where all forms of transportation are connected through software on the cloud, continuously evolving over time[1].

On March 28, 2023, Hyundai unveiled Pleos, marking its strategic shift towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and advanced infotainment systems. Central to Hyundai's vision for a software-centered mobility environment is its proprietary vehicle operating system and Pleos Connect, enabling cars to function as adaptable software platforms[1].

Pleos Connect, built on Android Automotive OS, redefines in-vehicle infotainment with unparalleled openness and scalability. It features a smartphone-like interface and AI-powered voice recognition, offering a seamless user experience[3]. This next-generation infotainment system is set to debut in vehicles like the next-gen Hyundai Elantra and Tucson, with features such as a large-screen center display and integration with upgraded hardware[3].

To enhance SDV performance and scalability, Hyundai is developing a proprietary vehicle operating system. This system will provide a seamless and connected mobility experience[1]. In addition, Hyundai has established Pleos Playground, an open development platform for third-party developers. This platform offers essential software development kits, APIs, design guides, and sample codes, aiming to diversify the in-vehicle app ecosystem[1].

Hyundai is collaborating with global partners to strengthen its in-vehicle app ecosystem. Key partners include Google, Uber, Samsung, Naver, SOCAR, and Unity[1]. These collaborations will help to enhance the app ecosystem, providing users with a wide range of smart mobility functions such as autonomous driving, real-time data analysis, and optimized routing.

In terms of autonomous driving, Hyundai aims to implement Level 2+ autonomous driving by the end of 2027. This system will utilize cameras, radars, and AI deep learning to make complex decisions about vehicle surroundings[2]. The Level 2+ system is part of Hyundai's broader strategy to enhance autonomous driving capabilities through continuous refinement of decision-making algorithms, facilitated by real-time data collection at its UX Studio Seoul[2].

To ensure user satisfaction and accelerate SDV software iteration, Hyundai has opened UX Studio Seoul. This allows for real-time user feedback and personalized experiences, such as customizable seating and voice-controlled systems. The studio network spans across Seoul, Shanghai, and Frankfurt, ensuring region-specific preferences are integrated into design[2]. By 2030, Pleos Connect is expected to be applied to over 20 million vehicles, creating a vast ecosystem for developers and users[2].

In a bid to address societal challenges such as mobility equity, regional depopulation, and climate change, the Next Urban Mobility Alliance (NUMA) was introduced by Hyundai, aiming to create cloud-based, autonomous transport solutions[4]. Pleos enables smart mobility functions like autonomous driving, real-time data analysis, and optimized routing, contributing to NUMA's mission of optimizing urban transit and reducing carbon emissions.

By embracing software-defined vehicles and advanced infotainment systems, Hyundai is set to redefine the automotive industry, offering users a more connected, efficient, and personalized mobility experience. With its open development platform, Pleos Playground, and strategic partnerships with global tech giants, Hyundai is well-positioned to lead the way in the software-centric mobility revolution.

In the pursuit of becoming a mobility tech company, Hyundai Motor Group's new software brand, Pleos, extends beyond vehicles to fleet management, leveraging technology for a connected ecosystem [1]. Pleos Connect, built on Android Automotive OS, not only redefines in-vehicle infotainment but also serves as an adaptable software platform for fleet management [3].
