The tech world is abuzz with anticipation as Xiaomi prepares to launch its latest flagship series, which includes the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and the highly-anticipated Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Expected to debut around September 24–26, 2025, these devices will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 processors.
One of the standout features of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is its functional secondary screen, a design element that sets it apart from its competitors. This innovative feature is reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Motorola's latest foldable phones, and it's expected to serve multiple purposes, including acting as a camera viewfinder.
However, it's important to note that the Xiaomi 17 Pro, along with the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, will not be available in the US market. This isn't the first time Xiaomi has opted to bypass the US market with some of its flagship devices.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro revives the concept of a secondary rear display, a feature first introduced in the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, released in 2022. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra featured a large camera hump and a tiny 1.1-inch OLED display at the back, which, albeit a novelty, didn't see continued development until the Xiaomi 17 Pro.
In the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, the entire camera hump transforms into a display, with the design mirroring that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Motorola's latest foldable phones. The secondary display on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max features smartwatch-inspired watch faces, adding a unique aesthetic touch to the device.
While Xiaomi has been criticised in the past for aping Apple's designs, the silhouette of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max bears a striking resemblance to the iPhone 17 Pro. It's worth noting that the Xiaomi 17 Pro is expected to be an all-out flagship, boasting top-tier camera hardware, a large battery, and Qualcomm's flagship chip.
Xiaomi has shared official product renders and a teaser video of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, promising a more elaborate implementation of the secondary rear display compared to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. The camera hump on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max even lights up, adding an extra layer of visual appeal to the device.
Despite the controversies surrounding Xiaomi's design choices, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max's innovative secondary screen and other high-end features are sure to attract attention when it's officially unveiled later this year.
