Improved Sony Headset for Odor-Detection: The Sony WH-1000XM6

Say hello to the future of auditory bliss. The Sony WH-1000XM6 has taken a giant leap forward, delivering an unparalleled sound and noise-cancellation experience over its predecessor, making it a top contender in the realm of current Bluetooth headphones. But prepare to loosen your purse strings, as premium quality comes with a premium price tag.

Bending to perfection

Sony listened to the complaints about the stiff headband of the WH-1000XM5 and fixed it with style. The WH-1000XM6 now sports hinges located just above the ear cups, resulting in a sturdy, flexible, and rattle-free design that folds compactly for travel.

Moreover, the enhanced comfort is evident in every detail. The ear cups feature thicker cushions that provide plenty of space for your ears, making the headphones perfect for glasses wearers and offering exceptionally comfortable extended listening sessions. The headband is also wider and thicker for an even more comfortable fit. When folded, the WH-1000XM6 can easily fit into a smaller case than its bulky forerunner, leaving you more room in your luggage for other essentials.

Control at your fingertips

The control interface has remained mostly unchanged. The right ear cup sports a sensitive touch surface that accurately responds to taps and swipes, allowing you to control playback. During calls, simply nod or shake your head to answer or end them. On the underside of the left ear cup, you'll find two easy-to-identify buttons: one for powering on, off, and pairing via Bluetooth, and the other for switching between noise cancellation, transparency mode, activating streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music, or summoning the Endel sleep and relaxation app.

Tuning your sound

The Sony Sound Connect app lets you adjust all settings. Update the headphones with the newest software, choose music presets, optimize noise cancellation for specific activities, and even modify the equalizer settings with 10 adjustable frequency bands to fine-tune your audio experience. Want to relish high-quality audio? No worries, as the WH-1000XM6 supports High Resolution Audio and 3D Sound via the Bluetooth LDAC codec or Sony's 360 Reality Audio.

Crystal clear sound

The WH-1000XM6 builds upon its predecessor's superb sound quality, offering a refined interior that delivers even more detail, definition, and clarity. Sony seems to have improved the dynamics as well, resulting in an even more cohesive and precise sound image.

Non-audiophile listeners will find that the headphones offer a great performance across a wide range of musical genres, and gaming enthusiasts will appreciate the dedicated gaming mode, which enhances footstep and gunshot sounds for a more immersive gaming experience.

The art of noise-cancellation

The WH-1000XM6 raises the bar even higher in the noise-cancellation arena. Sony increased the number of microphones from eight to twelve, ensuring that the XM6 adapts better to the environment while effectively filtering out disturbing noises from busy streets, airplanes, trains, keyboards, or colleagues' conversations. The XM6 is a champ at reducing different types of noises and surpasses many of its competitors in this regard.

The WH-1000XM6's active noise cancellation (ANC) reliably filters out the cacophony of a bustling city, allowing you to focus on your music and phone calls. The ANC minimal self-noise is minimal, and the sound remains unaffected by the function. The transparency mode adjusts the strength continuously or leaves it to automatic control, and you can even chose to let voices through when using ANC.

Epic phone calls

The WH-1000XM6 impresses during calls, thanks to its enhanced microphones and AI support, which create a beamforming system that captures your voice effectively and suppresses background noise. Wind noise is handled smoothly, and your conversation partners will barely hear any disturbances from your surroundings.

Lasting power

The WH-1000XM6's battery life isn't exceptional but is still impressive, lasting up to 30 hours according to Sony. Although we didn't manage to fully deplete the battery during testing, the WH-1000XM6's display showing 83% after around five hours suggests that Sony's claim is roughly accurate. Just three minutes of charging will get you an additional three hours of music, and unlike the XM5, you can use the WH-1000XM6 while it's charging.

The verdict

If you're on the hunt for the best Bluetooth headphones, the WH-1000XM6 is a worthy contender. Sony crushed the design flaws of the XM5, significantly upped the sound and noise-cancellation performance, and brought the price to a whole new level. It's a splurge, but the WH-1000XM6 is rightly earning its place at the top of Bluetooth headphones in 2022.

Consider upgrading your audio experience with the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones. They stand out from other gadgets by offering immersive sound quality, advanced noise-cancellation, and a premium design. This technology, a game-changer in audio technology, has been painstakingly enhanced to meet the desires of even the most discerning consumer, with Sony addresses issues like stiff headband and improves headphone performance in various environments.
