For instance, face-framed pictures, such as those with an athletic passive or personal frame, led to faster fixations on faces and longer dwell time on faces. In contrast, body-framed pictures, including athletic active and sexualized images, drove faster fixations on bodies and higher dwell time on bodies.

Moreover, the study found that viewer sex and athlete sex influence visual behavior due to differences in social cognition and perceptual biases. Viewers tend to gaze more at athletes of the same sex and may focus on different features based on gender stereotypes or cultural norms. For example, men might focus more on action in male athletes, while women may pay more attention to emotional expressions in female athletes.

These variations can impact interpretation of athletic performance, emotional engagement, and motivation, demonstrating that both the framing of images and the sex of the athlete/viewer modulate visual attention patterns.
