Instagram Launches Map Feature for Location Sharing

Instagram is introducing a new map feature, enabling users to share their location with friends. This feature, akin to Snapchat's Snap Map, prioritizes safety and transparency. The rollout schedule for Europe remains unannounced.

To access the map feature, users can find it in their Instagram inbox by tapping on 'Map'. The feature is initially disabled and requires manual activation. Users can select exactly who to share their location with or exclude specific locations. To disable, navigate to 'Settings', then 'Privacy', and choose 'Nobody' under 'Location Services'. To enable, follow the same path, select who to share with, then allow 'Access to Location' in device settings.

Instagram's map feature will display the location of your Instagram friends and your own, if enabled. The company aims to make location sharing more controlled and secure, offering users the choice to share with specific people or not at all.

Instagram's new map feature is a notable update, granting users more control over their location sharing. While the rollout timeline for Europe is uncertain, users can prepare by familiarizing themselves with the activation and deactivation processes.
