Microchip Launches Next-Generation LAN9645xF and LAN9645xS Gigabit Ethernet Switches

Introducing a versatile line of Gigabit Ethernet switches equipped with Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Audio-Video Bridging (AVB), as well as redundancy features, catering to industrial applications.

Microchip Technology, a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, and analog semiconductor solutions, has announced the launch of its next-generation LAN9645xF and LAN9645xS Gigabit Ethernet Switches. These switches are designed to cater to the needs of industrial devices, as well as for markets like aerospace and defense, data centers, and sustainability.

The LAN9645xF and LAN9645xS switches are equipped to connect and control industrial devices in real-time. They support standard Ethernet switching with some Precision Time Protocol (PTP) support, ensuring precise timing for time-sensitive applications.

For maximum reliability and flexibility, the LAN9645xF/S switches provide advanced features. The LAN9645xF device, in particular, offers hardware-assisted redundancy that meets the IEC 62439-3 standard for Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) and High-availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR). This feature ensures seamless failover and zero packet loss during faults, making it ideal for demanding environments.

The LAN9645xF device also supports Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Audio Video Bridging (AVB) in managed mode, enabling reliable and scalable networks. The LAN9645xS, on the other hand, is intended to be used as a low-cost unmanaged switch, offering a simple yet effective solution for less complex applications.

Each switch has up to 5 integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T PHYs, providing high-speed, reliable communication. The switches can operate in either stand-alone unmanaged system configurations or in managed mode with full Linux Distributed Switch Architecture (DSA) support on a connected host, offering flexibility in deployment.

Microchip's LAN9645xF/S devices are highly configurable for specific application needs, and they seamlessly integrate with Microchip's ecosystem including MCUs, memory, and timing solutions. This integration simplifies the design process and reduces system costs, making it easier for customers to implement advanced TSN and redundancy features.

In addition, the scalability of Ethernet technology allows it to support various protocols for seamless integration. The new switches offer multiple port configurations (5-, 7-, and 9-port options), providing versatility in network design.

Microchip Technology backs its LAN9645xF/S devices with global technical support and a full suite of development tools, ensuring a smooth development and deployment process. With these next-generation switches, Microchip continues to push the boundaries of Ethernet technology, providing innovative solutions for today's demanding industrial applications.
