In a significant move for the semiconductor industry, Nearfield Instruments, a Dutch developer for the semiconductor manufacturing industry, has successfully closed a €135m series-C funding round. This round was led by Temasek, a Singaporean government-owned investment corporation, and Walden Catalyst, a US venture capital firm. M&G Investments is acting as a co-investor in the funding round.

The funds raised will be used for the development of Metrology and Inspection products by Nearfield. One of the key products to benefit from this investment is the QUADRA 3D metrology system, which is set to play a crucial role in the conversion, transfer, and storage of renewable energy as electricity with minimal power loss - a vital aspect in the development of green technologies.

Dr. Hamed Sadeghian, co-founder and CEO of Nearfield Instruments, expressed his excitement about the funding, stating that it would allow for an increase in production capacity, expansion of the product portfolio, and strengthening of Nearfield's position in the semiconductor equipment industry.

Young Sohn, founding managing partner at Walden Catalyst, shared his belief that advanced semiconductors are essential for global innovation and growth. He highlighted that the next generation is being driven by advanced lithography and 3D integration, featuring smaller features, deeper trenches, and tighter tolerances.

It is worth noting that the manufacturing process of semiconductors can have adverse environmental impacts. However, with the funds raised, Nearfield Instruments aims to contribute to a greener future by developing technology that minimises these impacts while driving innovation in the semiconductor industry.

Nearfield Instruments was founded by Dr. Tobias Kölbel, and has previously garnered the support of investors such as Innovation Industries, Invest-NL, and ING. This latest funding round underscores the confidence that the industry has in Nearfield's potential to shape the future of semiconductors.

As Nearfield Instruments continues to grow and innovate, it is clear that the company is poised to make a significant impact on the semiconductor industry, driving advancements in green technology and sustainable manufacturing processes.
