Iqbal Khan Joins J. Sagar Associates, Bringing His Highly Sought-after M&A Practice
Iqbal Khan, prominent figure in SAM's rainmaking division, moves with a team of 20 M&A specialists to join JSA firm.
Iqbal Khan, a renowned name in the legal industry, has joined J. Sagar Associates (JSA) as a partner in their corporate, M&A, and private equity practice. Khan, along with a team of around 20 lawyers, made the move from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co.
Khan's clientele includes top conglomerates, sovereign wealth funds, and private equity giants such as TPG, Bain Capital, Brookfield, Advent, Apax, and KKR. His M&A vertical is one of the most sought-after corporate practices in the market, making his arrival at JSA a significant boost for the firm.
The team led by Khan at JSA includes Ambarish, Tanavi Mohanty, Ashid Basheer, and Devika Menon. With this hire, JSA has strengthened its M&A capabilities, offering more freedom and strategic independence in matter management.
JSA's recent hires extend beyond the M&A sector. The firm has also recruited a four-member disputes team from Krishnamurthy & Co (K Law) and former Trilegal counsel Anurag Shrivastav in Mumbai. Additionally, JSA has hired partners Brijita Prakash, Santosh Vijay, and Rakesh Warrier in Bengaluru, and Harshavardhan Abburi in Hyderabad.
One of the most notable deals that Khan has represented is the $8.5 billion mega-merger between Reliance Industries and its media division Viacom18 with Walt Disney's Star India. He has also guided TPG on its sale of some shareholding in Quality Care India to Blackstone and represented Tata Technologies in its joint venture with BMW. Khan's M&A group is believed to be one of the most lucrative practice groups across Tier 1 firms.
