Khabarovsk Resident Loses 1.5M Rubles in Sophisticated Phone Scam

A 27-year-old resident of Khabarovsk's Krasnoflotsky District has fallen victim to a sophisticated phone scam, losing a substantial amount of money. The incident highlights the growing threat of such frauds and the need for vigilance.

The victim received a call from an individual claiming to be a representative of the mobile company. The caller warned about an unpaid bill, urging immediate action to prevent service disconnection. To add credibility, the scammer claimed to have the victim's personal details and even involved 'police officers' in the conversation. Fearing legal consequences, the resident transferred 1.1 million rubles and took out a loan of 385,000 rubles to settle the supposed national debt. However, the money was sent to the scammer's account, with no actual debt existing. The total loss amounts to 1.5 million rubles.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by phone scams. Authorities urge residents to be cautious and verify any requests for money, especially when involving personal details or law enforcement. Anyone who believes they may have fallen victim to a similar scam is advised to contact local police immediately.
