Law Enforcement Inspects Pedal Electric Bikes and Electric Scooters
In Darmstadt, the 1st Police Station hosted a training session on Friday morning for checks of two-wheelers and electric micro-vehicles. The session was attended by officers from the South Hesse Police Headquarters, employees of the judiciary, and officers from the Rhineland-Palatinate Police.
The location of the checks remained Bismarckstraße, and the training session was part of daily patrols where such checks are gaining importance. Between 13:00 and 15:00, a total of 18 individuals and 16 bicycles and E-scooters were checked.
During the checks, an E-scooter belonging to a 15-year-old was found to be exceeding the permitted speed of 20 km/h, with a speed of 33 km/h. On a pedelec, the speedometer showed a measured speed of 113 km/h, significantly higher than the allowed maximum speed of 25 km/h. Both vehicles were secured for further examination by an expert.
No further details about the nature or outcome of the manipulation were provided. The drivers of the vehicles were required to continue their journey on foot. No information was given about any penalties or violations issued during the checks, including those related to the speeding incidents involving the E-scooter and pedelec.
