Lhyfe's Giant Green Hydrogen Plant Set for Germany in 2025
Lhyfe is set to make history with its largest commercial green hydrogen production plant in Germany. Located in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg, the 10 MW facility is expected to be inaugurated in October 2025. This project aligns with the federal government's renewable energy goals and supports the state's hydrogen refueling infrastructure ambitions.
The plant will be powered by renewable electricity from hydro, wind, and solar sources, marking the first time green hydrogen is made available to the broad market. Lhyfe's pipeline already represents a total installed production capacity of 10.3 GW across Europe, with plans to reach over 3 GW by 2030 and an additional 3 GW of offshore capacity by 2030-2035.
The project is funded by a combination of state, EU, and private investments, including a €6.4 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The plant's construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2024.
The produced hydrogen will partly supply the 'H2-Aspen' industrial park and a JET H2 hydrogen filling station, integrating with existing hydrogen infrastructure to create a key hub in the region's hydrogen economy.
Lhyfe's plant in Schwäbisch Gmünd is poised to become a significant player in Germany's green hydrogen landscape. By 2025, it will contribute to the state's model region status for hydrogen refueling infrastructure and support the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors' decarbonization efforts.
