Łódź University of Technology Secures Gold Award for Inventive Venture at EUROINVENT 2024 Competition

The Łódź University of Technology scored big at the 2024 EUROINVENT, nabbing a Gold Medal in Iasi, Romania. The university's winning project, "Composite Material Based on PLA, Its Manufacturing Method, and Application," launched under the "Sustainable Industrial Design of Textile Structures for Composite" initiative, secured the prize with patent number PCT/EP2024/052675.

The groundbreaking project is a collaborative effort between Dr. Eng. Paulina Byczkowska, Dr. Emil Saryusz-Wolski, and Dr. Hab. Eng. Marcin Barburski, Prof. PŁ, from Łódź University of Technology, and Prof. Nawar Kadi and Prof. Mikael Skrifvars from the University of Boras in Sweden.

By integrating natural fibers into PLA, this innovative team is delivering a big punch to textile waste, all while aiming to optimize the PLA mixture for environmentally friendly, durable final products like spare parts and packaging. As Prof. Barburski points out, "This means these materials can print a variety of items suited for sustainability."

With over 600 inventions and projects from 34 countries on display, the 16th EUROINVENT in 2024 highlighted the burgeoning significance of creativity and innovation on a global scale.

EUROINVENT, an annual shindig for inventors, researchers, and creators worldwide, emphasizes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and promoting innovations across various fields. First established in 1999, this exhibition has grown in reach and impact year after year.

The Łódź University of Technology's recent victory at EUROINVENT 2024 solidifies its reputation as a leading force in sustainable technology and innovation, following in a long line of scientific research and technological advancements since its inception in 1945.
