The city of Los Angeles is gearing up for a spectacular summer in 2028, as it prepares to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Hollywood Park Studios, a state-of-the-art movie studio and production facility, is at the heart of this exciting venture, spearheaded by Los Angeles Rams owner E. Stanley Kroenke. The 300-acre mixed-use destination in Inglewood, Calif., also includes SoFi Stadium, creating a dynamic hub for the Games.

Los Angeles' Olympic spirit, deeply rooted in its DNA, is reflected in the city's commitment to bringing bold ideas to life and redefining the experience of the Games. Yiannis Exarchos, CEO of Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), emphasised this during the OBS World Broadcaster Briefing, stating that they are dedicated to pushing the boundaries and delivering an unparalleled spectacle for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics.

The L.A. Coliseum, a venue for both the 1932 and 1984 Summer Games, will once again take centre stage. It will host Olympic and Paralympic track and field events, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. The Olympics gymnastics venue will be DTLA Arena, known as Crypto.com Arena when hosting the NBA's Lakers, WNBA's Sparks, and NHL's Kings. The Inglewood Dome, or Intuit Dome, will host basketball, while Exposition Park Stadium, or BMO Stadium, will host the new Olympic sports of flag football and lacrosse. The Los Angeles Convention Center will play host to a mix of Olympic and Paralympic sports, including boccia, fencing, taekwondo, judo, wrestling, table tennis, and wheelchair fencing.

The technological plans for the 2028 Games are nothing short of revolutionary. OBS is planning to leverage AI extensively for event operations and broadcasting, deploy next-generation 5G and wireless systems, and promote sustainability by using existing venues and infrastructure clusters. AI will assist in operational management, athlete training, event judging, and improving the broadcasting experience by speeding up access to highlights from multiple angles and athletes.

OBS is also planning a shift to a fully internet protocol- and information technology-based production infrastructure for the Games, enhancing flexibility, scalability, and integration of multimedia production workflows essential for high-quality, multi-angle live broadcasting worldwide. The use of 5G technologies is expected to provide robust and efficient wireless connectivity to support broadcasting, athlete connectivity, and operations.

The emphasis on sustainability is evident in the venues for 2028, which primarily rely on already existing or under-construction facilities around Greater Los Angeles. This approach reflects a sustainable design plan focusing on reducing new construction and utilizing existing infrastructure. The Olympic Village will be set up at UCLA, also leveraging established campus facilities.

Hollywood Park Studios will house hundreds of media rights holders from around the world during the Games, ensuring seamless coverage for a global audience. The technological plans for the 2028 Games, including AI-driven content processing, expanded use of 5G, and sustainable design practices, aim to create a highly efficient, immersive experience for athletes, organisers, and global audiences alike.

SoFi Stadium, known as 2028 Stadium for the Games, will co-host the Opening Ceremonies and host swimming events, promising a spectacular start and an unforgettable finale to the Games. With these groundbreaking plans in place, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics are set to be a truly memorable event, showcasing the city's spirit, innovation, and commitment to sustainability.

The Games are scheduled from July 14-30, 2028, for the Olympics, and August 15-27, 2028, for the Paralympics. The OBS World Broadcaster Briefing provided broadcasters an opportunity to meet, tour competition venues, and discuss the games' coverage, ensuring a coordinated and engaging presentation for viewers worldwide.
