Get Ready for Trouble: Another Major Data Breach Exposes 4 MillionAmericans to Identity Theft

Here's a fresh slice of bad news for you, dear readers - yet another cybersecurity incident has hit the headlines, this time involving employee benefits administration firm, VeriSource Services Inc. Hackers managed to breach their systems, making off with sensitive personal data of approximately four million individuals.

On February 28, 2024, VeriSource became aware of some unusual activity that disrupted certain of their systems. Stepping up to the plate, the company immediately secured its network and enlisted the help of a renowned digital forensics and incident response firm to investigate the matter.

The investigation that followed revealed cyber crooks had waltzed right in, accessing the firm's database without authorization. They made off with customer records, including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and gender details.

VSI offers administrative and employee benefits management services for companies, including COBRA administration, dependent verification, Affordable Care Act reporting, eligibility monitoring, direct billing services, and more.

Unsurprisingly, affected individuals started receiving notification letters from VeriSource, with free identity theft protection services on offer, complete with dark web monitoring and a $1 million insurance reimbursement policy. Luckily, so far, there have been no reports of any actual or suspected misuse of the stolen information.

The FBI was duly informed of the incident, and VeriSource has beefed up its security protocols to help prevent a similar cyberattack in the future.
