Mercedes-Benz Fights Counterfeiters to Protect Consumers and Workers
Mercedes-Benz is intensifying its battle against counterfeiters to safeguard consumers energy, local workers, and society. In 2022, over 155,000 fake listings were removed from online jobs, a 23% increase from the previous year.
Counterfeiters often target safety-critical parts like brand identity brake discs and wheels, making it challenging for consumers to spot fakes online. Over 1.6 million counterfeit products were seized in 620 raids last year. These products frequently fail to meet safety standards, putting road users at risk.
To combat this, Mercedes-Benz is expanding its brand protection strategy. Renata Jungo Brüngger and the Mercedes-Benz Intellectual Property Competence Centre collaborate with law enforcement agencies and industry partners like the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC). They work together to dismantle counterfeit supply chains and enhance intellectual property protection. Consumers can protect themselves by examining suspicious offers, checking for low prices, poor quality, or dubious sources.
Counterfeiters produce goods under inhumane conditions, disregarding human rights and environmental standards. Mercedes-Benz's efforts to combat counterfeiting not only protect consumers energy but also support fair competition and respect for workers' rights. As global online trade in counterfeit Mercedes-Benz products increases, the company's commitment to brand protection remains steadfast.
