New CEO of Metrolinx Set to Earn Up to $823,879.20 in First Year

Michael Lindsay, the new full-time CEO of Metrolinx, is set to take home a base salary of approximately $687,000 per year, with the potential to earn a performance-based bonus of up to 20%. This could bring his total compensation to around $823,879.20 in his first year, according to his contract.

However, the specific performance targets required for Lindsay to unlock his full bonus remain undisclosed. It's worth noting that the exact criteria or benchmarks he must meet to receive the full bonus have not been made public.

Lindsay has been serving as an interim leader at Metrolinx since Phil Verster left, and officially took on the role on July 1. Prior to joining Metrolinx, Lindsay worked for Infrastructure Ontario, another provincial agency.

During his time at Infrastructure Ontario, Lindsay oversaw a large portfolio of public land and construction projects. However, he was also involved in several controversial government announcements.

In comparison, Verster, the former CEO of Metrolinx, earned $883,990.63 in 2024. Notably, Verster received a vehicle allowance of approximately $12,000 despite not owning a car, a perk not extended to Lindsay.

As the new CEO of Metrolinx, Lindsay will be tasked with leading the agency in its mission to improve public transportation in the province. His performance in the coming months and years will determine whether he achieves his performance targets and earns his full bonus.

Despite Lindsay's focus on improving public transportation in the province, the specifics of his performance targets in politics, lifestyle, technology, sports, and weather remain unknown. With Verster's interest in government announcements and controversial decisions in the past, it will be interesting to observe how Lindsay navigates the intersection of his professional life and these broader aspects of society as the new CEO of Metrolinx.
