Mid-tier Samsung processors, Exynos 9610, introduce AI capabilities and high-speed video recording at 480 frames per second to the market.

Samsung has announced the Exynos 9610, a new mid-range chipset that is set to power the next generation of Samsung's mid-range Android smartphones and tablets, including models in the Galaxy A series such as the Galaxy A12, A13, A14, and others in similar tiers.

Key Features of the Exynos 9610

The Exynos 9610 is an octa-core design, featuring four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked up to 2.3GHz for high performance and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores at 1.6GHz for power efficiency, following the big.LITTLE design. This configuration provides a good balance of power and performance, suitable for smaller smartphones.

The chipset is fabricated using a 10nm FinFET process, which offers a good balance of power efficiency and performance.

In terms of connectivity, the Exynos 9610 integrates an LTE modem supporting 4G with download speeds up to 600 Mbps and upload speeds up to 150 Mbps. Additionally, it includes WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and an FM radio transceiver.

The graphics processing unit (GPU) is an ARM Mali-G72 MP3, supporting modern graphics APIs including Vulkan, DirectX 12, and OpenGL ES 3.2.

One of the standout features of the Exynos 9610 is its image processing capabilities. It supports slow-motion video recording at up to 480fps at 720p resolution and 240fps at 1080p, leveraging AI for enhanced camera performance and image quality, including scene optimization and noise reduction.

Advanced AI-Based Image Processing

The Exynos 9610's image signal processor (ISP) is designed to deliver impressive camera performance. It features a neural network engine for enhanced face detection, out-focusing, and augmented low-light images. The face detection algorithm can even detect faces that are partially covered, such as those with hats or large beards.

Moreover, the Exynos 9610 allows for portrait mode with a single camera, similar to what Google offers on the Pixel 2. This is made possible by the chipset's AI-based image processing capabilities.

Mass Production and Target Devices

Samsung plans to start mass production of the Exynos 9610 in the latter half of the year. The chipset is likely to power the successor to the Galaxy A8, making it a key component in Samsung's mid-range device strategy.
