Modern Atomics Enhances Motorized Shade Motors at CEDIA Expo 2025

Modern Atomics, a leading innovator in the CEDIA and ProAV channels, is making waves in the shading and smart home market with its AI-enhanced power distribution units (PDUs). The company's flagship product, the Reaktor, has been making headlines for its energy-efficient features, broad compatibility, and smart control integration.

Reaktor: The AI-Powered PDU Revolution

The Reaktor PDU uses patented AI technology to deliver advanced power management specifically designed for motorized window shades. This cutting-edge technology eliminates up to 99.75% of normally wasted idle electrical current, resulting in significant energy savings per shade annually. By drastically cutting idle power draw, these PDUs can save hundreds of kilowatt-hours per shade per year, enhancing the sustainability and operational cost-effectiveness of motorized shading installations.

The Reaktor can power up to 22 motorized window shades simultaneously, supporting Somfy RS485 SDN low voltage motors and compatible with a wide range of smart motor types including 485, PoE, Zigbee, Matter, and SubGHz-controlled motors. Its compact form factor is suitable for wall or rack mounting, making installation neat and versatile in both residential and commercial settings.

Simplified Deployment and Interoperability

The system boasts a straightforward installation process, reducing labor time and cost. Modern Atomics' units integrate with popular control systems such as Bond, enabling smart control over diverse motor brands and communication protocols commonly used in the industry. This interoperability and control integration make Modern Atomics' PDUs a valuable addition to any smart home or commercial installation.

Industry Recognition and Support

Launched at CEDIA Expo 2024, the Reaktor has received multiple awards and strong media attention, reflecting the innovation and impact of this technology in the shading and smart home market.

Expanding the Product Line: Neutron and Tokamak

Modern Atomics has introduced a new product called Neutron, an expanded version of Reaktor, which powers up to 22 low voltage shade motors from various brands. Neutron will start shipping in October, with an MSRP starting at $1,899.

The company's new product, Tokamak, drives up to 10 shades (either 485 or RF motors). Tokamak can be paired with larger Modern Atomics PDUs in big systems, supporting up to 192 shades and providing DC power for up to 8 PDU's. By using Tokamak, the need for each PDU to have a separate DC injector is eliminated, saving space, cables, and reducing the number of required AC outlets from 8 to 1.

A Mission for Sustainable Innovation

Modern Atomics is headquartered in Austin, TX and has offices in Singapore. The company is led by co-founders Paul Bryson (CTO), Tim Marshall (CFO), and Michael Braithwaite (Chairperson). Their mission is to bring innovative technology to the CEDIA and ProAV channels, providing higher value, lower deployment costs, reducing carbon footprint, and delivering unique customer experiences.

Michael Braithwaite, the Chairperson of Modern Atomics, was recognized by Commercial Integrator Magazine as a Living Legend in 2024.
