Musk intends to file a lawsuit against Apple
In a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk, the tech mogul behind SpaceX, Tesla, and X, has publicly threatened to sue Apple for alleged anticompetitive practices in the App Store.
According to Musk's statements on his X platform, he accuses Apple of purposely preventing his AI startup, xAI, from reaching the top spots in the App Store. Specifically, he claims that Apple refuses to feature his X app and the Grok AI chatbot in the "Must Have" section, despite X being the #1 news app globally and Grok ranking #5 among all apps.
Musk alleges that Apple's App Store ranking system is designed to favour OpenAI's ChatGPT, which currently ranks first, and prevents any other AI company from reaching the top spot. He calls this an "unequivocal antitrust violation" and says his AI startup xAI will take immediate legal action.
At the time of Musk's comments, OpenAI’s ChatGPT ranked first in the App Store, while Musk’s Grok was fifth. Apple has not yet responded publicly to these allegations.
