Nautilus Solar Completes First of Three Rhode Island Installations, Benefiting Affordable Housing

Nautilus Solar, a US-based solar energy company, has completed the first of three solar installations in Rhode Island, benefiting multiple affordable housing authorities. The project, Exeter Mail, is a 6.5 MW solar installation in Exeter, Rhode Island, and is expected to reduce energy costs by over $35 million over the next 20 years.

The solar installations, totaling over 13 MW, will generate approximately 20 GWh of clean energy annually. This energy will be supplied to the grid within Rhode Island Energy's territory, with the market value distributed as utility bill credits among nine different affordable housing authorities in Providence, North Providence, Newport, Cranston, Smithfield, Warwick, Warren, Bristol, and Lincoln. This is made possible by Rhode Island's virtual net metering program, which allows eligible customers to connect their electric load regardless of where the renewable system is located.

Nautilus Solar is the sole developer and will manage the projects for their estimated lifetime of 25 to 30 years. The company has been working with Veolia, which has advised PHARI on energy decisions for over ten years. While there are no public reports of Nautilus Solar specifically installing solar systems for a public housing authority in Rhode Island, these projects are expected to benefit affordable housing across the state.

The completion of the Exeter Mail solar installation marks a significant step in Nautilus Solar's commitment to providing clean, affordable energy to Rhode Island's affordable housing authorities. With the total solar capacity of over 13 MW, these installations are expected to generate substantial savings for the beneficiary housing authorities while contributing to a cleaner environment.
