Bavaria Launches Initiative to Eliminate Mobile Network Dead Zones

In an effort to improve mobile network coverage, the German state of Bavaria has called upon its citizens to report any persisting dead zones in network connectivity. The initiative comes as Bavarian Minister of Economics, Hubert Aiwanger, emphasized the importance of robust communication networks, stating, "A poor network is frustrating, not just for individuals but especially for businesses. Mobile networks and coverage are crucial factors in location decisions."

The first nationwide mobile network measurements are set to commence today, as outlined by the Ministry of Economics. Citizens are invited to share their findings of dead zones or conduct broadband measurements using the official app of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). These contributions can aid in mapping the network more accurately.

Minister Aiwanger lamented that there are still lingering issues with coverage, explaining that new mobile towers have been constructed as part of a 130-million-euro funding program. In addition, the ministry supports municipalities in erecting mobile towers that can then be rented to network operators.

Citizens interested in more information about mobile network improvements in Bavaria are encouraged to consult the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs' website, press releases, and the Bayern Innovativ event calendar. While there is extensive Bavarian government support for advanced mobile network and digital infrastructure, including 5G and 6G initiatives, no specific "Mobile Network Measurement Week" related to Minister Aiwanger has been publicly documented.

The Bavarian Ministry of Economics has released a digital app for citizens to report dead zones in mobile network coverage as part of the Community policy for network improvement. Streamlining employment policies, network operators can rent mobile towers constructed by municipalities, ensuring alignment with the goal of eliminating technology-related dead zones across Bavaria.
