New Facebook Group Unveils Lens Technology: Visionwear with Built-In Screens
In the world of technology, smart glasses are the latest trend, and Meta is leading the charge with its new product, the Meta Ray-Ban Display. During a recent presentation, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased the glasses, but they faced some issues with accepting video calls.
The Meta Ray-Ban Display is an innovative pair of glasses that can display text messages, photos, and videos directly in one of the lenses. The display, with a resolution of 600 by 600 pixels, is integrated into the right lens of the glasses. Users can control the glasses using a wristband designed to detect the smallest movements.
Despite some hiccups during the live demonstration, where the software moved on to the next steps prematurely, Meta claims a battery life of up to six hours for the glasses. The company also announced that the Meta Ray-Ban Display will be available in the US from late September at a starting price of $799.
However, Meta is not the only player in the smart glasses market. Google has demonstrated prototypes of similar glasses, but there's no information on their release date. Berlin-based startup L'Atitude 52°N, founded in 2024 by ex-OnePlus manager Gary Chen, is also expected to compete with Meta in developing smart glasses with integrated displays. The startup focuses on everyday wearable smart glasses that do not look like technical devices.
Apple, too, is reportedly working on similar technology for years. While they have released a headset with camera capabilities, their headset does not include display technology integrated into the glasses like the Meta Ray-Ban Display.
The functionality and effectiveness of Meta's glasses in daily life remain uncertain. The issues experienced during the Meta presentation suggest potential challenges in the integration and functionality of AI and glasses technology. As the market for smart glasses continues to grow, we can expect to see more developments and improvements in this exciting new field.
