The German automaker Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its compact lineup with the launch of the redesigned CLA-Class, scheduled for 2026 in the United States. The new model, which has been previewed by the Concept CLA-Class, will be the first member of this downsized compact lineup.

The CLA-Class will offer both hybrid and fully electric powertrain options, with a prototype for the hybrid version already spotted. The electric CLA-Class prototype, developed by Mercedes-Benz, has also been tested recently. For hybrids, a newly developed 1.5-liter turbo-4 will be paired with a 27-hp electric motor and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, producing a total system output of 187 hp. The battery will be a 1.3-kWh lithium-ion unit mounted under the driver's seat, and front-wheel drive will be standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option.

Mercedes anticipates the ability to add 100 miles of range in less than 15 minutes of charging, thanks to an 800-volt electrical system that enables high-speed charging with a DC fast charger. For the electric CLA-Class, the rear motor will have a 268-hp rating, while the front motor will have a 107-hp rating. The latest Mercedes compacts will ride on a newly developed platform known as the MMA, which supports a choice of single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrains for EVs.

In addition to the CLA-Class, Mercedes is also working on a redesigned GLA-Class compact crossover and a new version of the CLA-Class Shooting Brake wagon. Mercedes-Benz is also testing a prototype for a redesigned GLB-Class.

The interior of the new CLA-Class features a dashboard with one wide panel that integrates screens for a digital gauge cluster and infotainment hub. The climate system vents are circular. The Mercedes star logo patterns are expected to be featured in the head and taillights of the new CLA-Class.

However, it seems that new generations of the A-Class sedan and hatchback, as well as the B-Class minivan, are not planned. Nonetheless, the new CLA-Class is being tested, suggesting its launch is imminent.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Mercedes-Benz is committed to providing innovative and sustainable solutions, and the redesigned CLA-Class is a testament to this commitment. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new model.
