OM System E-M1 Mark III Astro Now Available Worldwide, Excluding US
OM System has expanded the availability of its specialized astrophotography camera, the OM System E-M1 Mark III Astro, to more markets worldwide. This camera, initially exclusive to Japan, is now available in Australia, Europe, and the UK. However, as of 2025, it seems not to be officially distributed in the United States.
The E-M1 Mark III Astro stands out with its optimized IR cut filter, designed for approximately 100% transmittance of Hα rays. This feature, along with its computational capabilities like Starry Sky AF and High Res Shot, makes it a powerful tool for astrophotographers. The Starry Sky AF function enables autofocus on stars, even when handheld, providing users with greater flexibility.
The camera comes bundled with two new body filters: the OM System BMF-LPC01 Light Pollution Reduction Filter and the BMF-SE01 Soft Focus. These filters are compatible with most OM System cameras, excluding the original E-M5 and earlier PEN cameras. The E-M1 Mark III Astro is priced at £1,899 in the UK and AU$3,199 in Australia, offering a versatile choice for astrophotographers due to its compatibility with various lenses.
The OM System E-M1 Mark III Astro's release in more markets is exciting news for astrophotographers. Its specialized IR cut filter allows for vivid capture of nebulae that emit light from Hα rays, a feat difficult with ordinary digital cameras. While not currently available in the United States, astrophotographers in other regions can now enjoy this innovative camera.
