Online registration process now available at Bremen city office
Bremen, Germany - Starting September 24, residents of the city can now register or change their address online, thanks to a new service introduced by the city government. The service, accessible via www.service.bremen.de or www.wohnsitzanmeldung.de, aims to provide relief for other concerns at the Citizen's Office and is a significant added value for those who move within Bremen, move to Bremen, or come to Bremen as new residents.
The process involves creating a user account, filling out the registration form (Anmeldung), and submitting it electronically. Key steps include creating a user account, providing personal details, uploading necessary documents, and submitting the application before the deadline.
To register or update your address online, you'll first need to create a user account if you don't already have one. This can be done via the moin system for university-related applications or the general citizen portal. The account details must match your official ID.
Next, fill out the online Anmeldung form, providing your current personal details, your new address, and related information. Upload necessary documents, which usually include a valid identification (passport or EU national ID), proof of residence (such as a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung), and possibly birth or marriage certificates if required.
After submitting the application, you will typically receive confirmation or further instructions within a few days to a week. In some cases, you may still need to attend an in-person appointment at the Bürgeramt (registration office), but many cities including Bremen support fully online procedures.
After successful registration or update, you will receive official confirmation documents by mail. A new address sticker for physical ID and/or passport will be sent by mail, which only needs to be stuck on after receipt. The confirmation allows for digital address change on the ID.
The main practical requirement is the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung from your landlord, which verifies your address change in compliance with German registration law. No cost is usually involved for registration itself.
It is important to note that in some cases, spouses cannot be selected in the online service for moves from Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, and Bavaria. Developers are working intensively to make it possible for spouses to be selected in the online service as soon as possible.
The new online address change service is expected to free up more capacity at the Citizen's Office. Approximately 60,000 appointments per year would have to be provided for the address change service without the online option. Senator Ulrich Maurer hopes that many people will take advantage of the online address change service.
To use the service, a personal ID with an online function is required. For a rental apartment, the landlord's confirmation must be uploaded during the process. After data checking, the Citizen's Office will provide a registration confirmation in the user account. This new service eliminates the need for an office visit or waiting time.
- To take advantage of this new service, residents of Bremen can utilize technology by creating a user account and completing the Anmeldung form online, which will help them manage their address change digitally.
- The City of Bremen's new online address change service not only provides convenience for residents, but also helps enhance the capabilities of the Citizen's Office by utilizing technology, reducing the number of required office visits and appointments.
