OpenAI Launches Sora App with Generative AI Video Model
OpenAI has launched Sora, an iOS app leveraging its new Sora 2 generative AI video model. The app, initially available in the US and Canada, allows users to create and remix videos, with plans to expand globally.
Sora 2, the AI model powering the app, will initially offer a free version, Sora 2, with ChatGPT Pro users gaining access to the premium Sora 2 Pro. The app fosters a community feel, displaying content from friends and algorithmically suggested videos.
OpenAI is addressing concerns about excessive usage and wellbeing. It's prioritizing content creation over consumption and polling users on their mental health. Parental controls via ChatGPT are being introduced for under 18s, including daily generation limits and stricter cameo permissions.
Sora's launch, initially in the US and Canada, has sparked curiosity about how other social media platforms will respond. OpenAI plans to expand Sora's reach globally, with more countries to be confirmed soon. Users can control their likeness in videos and remove unwanted content.
