OpenAI & Stripe Revolutionize ChatGPT Shopping: Buy Directly from Etsy & Soon Shopify
OpenAI and Stripe have joined forces to revolutionise shopping within ChatGPT. Users can now buy items directly from Etsy sellers and soon Shopify merchants without leaving the chat interface, thanks to 'Instant Checkout in ChatGPT'.
This innovative feature is powered by the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), an open standard developed by Stripe in collaboration with OpenAI. When a user asks for product recommendations, a checkout window appears directly in the chat for seamless purchasing.
Stripe, aiming to create AI-powered shopping experiences for billions, has been supporting OpenAI's revenue model for commerce within ChatGPT since 2023. Companies like Stripe and Ant International are positioned to offer products and process payments within ChatGPT through ACP and Google's Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), respectively. Stripe's Shared Payment Token (SPT) ensures secure transactions by not exposing the buyer's payment data. Orders from ChatGPT will flow into the merchant's backend using ACP, maintaining their usual order and payment management.
OpenAI and Stripe's collaboration is transforming e-commerce, making shopping within ChatGPT convenient and secure. This move could significantly impact online retail, with more merchants expected to join the platform soon.
