Polestar Precept's Revolutionary Switchable HD Digital Rearview Mirror

Polestar Precept has unveiled a revolutionary feature in car design: a switchable HD digital rearview mirror. This marks a significant shift, akin to the introduction of race car drivers in the early 20th century, breaking away from the traditional rearview mirror that has been a staple for over a century.

The digital rearview mirror combines enhanced safety and passenger comfort. It uses a 2.5-megapixel camera with a 121-degree field of view, transmitting real-time images onto an 8.9-inch HD screen. Drivers can switch between the digital display and a standard rearview mirror, allowing them to see passengers in the back seat.

This innovation creates more space and a more luxurious feel in the rear seats, as the absence of a traditional mirror opens up the cabin. It also offers improved driver visibility, particularly in challenging conditions. Ola Aldensjö, product manager for the Polestar 4, highlights these benefits, attributing the change to better driver visibility and increased rear seat comfort.

The digital rearview mirror in the Polestar Precept signals a turning point in car design, turning back a century of history. By combining safety and comfort, it promises a more spacious, luxurious, and visible driving experience.
