Porsche Cayenne Electric: Early Models' Charging Limitation
Porsche Cayenne Electric owners are advised of a charging port limitation in the initial models. The NACS port, initially intended for DC fast charging at Tesla Supercharger stations, cannot be used for AC slow charging. Porsche is working on a hardware update to rectify this, but no timeline has been provided.
The Porsche Cayenne Electric, set to launch next year, will feature two charging ports, one on each side. In America, the left side will have a J1772 port, compatible with most Level 1 and Level 2 chargers. The right side will have a NACS port, designed for DC fast charging at Tesla Supercharger stations. However, the NACS port cannot be used for AC slow charging, a limitation that will not be rectified in early models through over-the-air updates or adapters.
This hardware issue may cause confusion on the second-hand market and among unaware customers, as they might expect the NACS port to support both AC and DC charging. Porsche is aware of the issue and is working on a hardware design update to enable the NACS port to handle both AC and DC charging. However, there is no timeline for this update yet.
In summary, early Porsche Cayenne Electric owners should be aware that the NACS port on their vehicle cannot be used for AC slow charging. Porsche is addressing this issue but has not provided a timeline for the hardware update. Buyers are advised to consider this limitation when purchasing the vehicle.
