Yangwang U8L: A Flagship Electric-Hybrid Luxury SUV

The Yangwang U8L, an extension of BYD's ultra-luxury sub-brand, has been unveiled as a powerful and opulent electric-hybrid SUV. The U8L, priced at RMB 1.3 million ($180,700) for pre-sales, is built on BYD's e4 technology and features a 4-motor setup with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 1,180 horsepower and up to 1,280 Nm of torque.

Key specifications and features include a range-extender system combining four electric motors and a 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a 2.0-liter turbo engine as a generator. This setup delivers exceptional acceleration and advanced all-wheel independent torque vectoring, allowing the U8L to perform "tank turns" and off-road maneuvers.

The U8L boasts a 2+2+2 seating layout prioritizing passenger comfort, with heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, heated armrests, and z erogravity second-row seats adjustable via touchscreen armrest. The interior also features a panoramic sunroof, ceiling-mounted middle screen, dual 50W wireless charging pads, small folding tables, ambient lighting, and a temperature-controlled storage compartment.

In terms of technology, the U8L comes equipped with the DiPilot 600 system, enabling Navigate on Autopilot for highway and urban driving with minimal input. It also boasts water-fording ability, tire blowout stabilization, emergency flotation, and all-terrain control.

The U8L's exterior design features body-colored wheel arches, 23-inch flat alloy wheels with a distinctive octagonal pattern, and a smoother design compared to the standard U8 model.

The Yangwang U8L was revealed at Auto Shanghai in April 2025 and officially went on sale in China around late July to early August 2025. It is positioned as a flagship luxury SUV, combining cutting-edge electric-hybrid technology, high performance exceeding even the Bugatti Veyron's horsepower, advanced autonomous driving features, and an opulent, spacious interior design aimed at rivaling ultra-luxury SUVs like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

The U8L is offered as the Dingshi Edition during pre-sales, and interested Chinese customers can reserve the U8L for RMB 20,000 and receive a RMB 30,000 optional feature fund.
