Prepare for a royal war in the land of Westeros, as a new Real-Time Strategy (RTS) Game of Thrones title is slated for release in 2026.
Peepin' Game On
I've been steering clear of the Game of Thrones TV series on HBO, 'cause, y'know, the real world's got enough politics to last ten lifetimes. But with the craziness abating somewhat, it seems the world of gaming's getting a tad more intense.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is already causing a stir on Steam, and at this year's Summer Game Fest, we got our first glimpse of Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, a savage new RTS debauchery from PlaySide Studios.
Just lookin' at the title and its RTS nature, you can bet we'll be commandin' armies for one of House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the Night King's forces. We'll aim for the Iron Throne, battlin' it out in singleplayer campaigns or goin' full chaos mode in multiplayer.
Here's a lil' taste of the mayhem from the press statement:
Squad up for some battle royale! Schemin' against opponents, forging alliances, and trickin' em when they least expect it'll be our tickets to glory. Each faction offers one-of-a-kind strategies, with SWAG gallivanting across the accursed realm of Westeros. Normally, we'd send in infantry, cavalry, siege engines, giants, and dragons to punch holes in our enemies. While we're strategizin' and outsmartin' our foes, we'll unleash hero abilities, channelin' the spirit of a true war commander.
And if you're impatient like me, feast your eyes on these tantalizing snaps:
It's gonna be wild to see how War for Westeros fares when it drops. Of course, it could be a smashin' RTS ain't nobody got enough of, but I'm wonderin' if the Game of Thrones license is really worth bustin' a nut over, and whether it'll catch the attention of gamers who'd never touch a "classic" fantasy RTS with a ten-foot pole. We still care enough to fork over our hard-earned bones for a bloodbath, right?

I cut my teeth on PC games, trudgin' through the mud with text adventures and lame action games on my first TRS80. As I evolved, I found myself in love with Sierra Online's adventures and Microprose's sims, runnin' my own BBS, and starin' with pure adoration at RPGs, immersive sims, and shooters. I began sharin' my game know-how back in 2007 with The Escapist, and after seven years of avoidin' reprimands, I finally joined the storied ranks of PC Gamer in 2014, where I cover all portions of the industry, from new games and patch notes to legal fisticuffs, Twitch beef, esports, and Superman. Lots of Superman, if you're into that sorta thing.
