In a significant move to enhance mobile connectivity, Vodafone has announced plans to equip several towns and municipalities in the Göttingen district with new mobile communication stations. Over the next twelve months, these infrastructure projects aim to improve mobile broadband coverage in communities such as Bad Sachsa, Hann. Münden, Rosdorf, Harz, and Göttingen, securing permanent coverage for approximately 250,000 inhabitants.
The expansion will see the installation of additional antennas for LTE and 5G at twelve existing sites in various locations. Five new sites will be put into operation in Bad Sachsa, Hann. Münden, and Göttingen within the next year, while six 5G upgrades are currently planned in Göttingen, Harz, and Rosdorf. In addition, Vodafone plans to upgrade 61 stations without 5G to 5G sites in the next expansion phase.
One of the key benefits of these projects is the enhancement of emergency services. Vodafone's new station in Staufenberg, for instance, not only supports the latest variants of the emergency call technology AML but also the disaster warning system Cell Broadcast. This means that in case of danger situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods, the surrounding population can be warned via their smartphones. The station in Staufenberg, which is equipped with the 5G technology, has recently been launched and has connected 3,000 residents and guests to Vodafone's mobile data highway for the first time.
Vodafone's commitment to sustainability is evident in its operations. The company currently operates 116 mobile communications stations in the district, with 103 equipped with the LTE mobile broadband technology. 55 of these stations also have the 5G technology. Vodafone aims to be CO2-neutral by 2025 and emission-free by 2040. The company generates an annual total turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees, making it one of the leading communications companies in Germany, providing internet, mobile, fixed-line, and TV services.
Diversity is deeply rooted in Vodafone's corporate culture. The company promotes offers for work-life balance and networks for women, fathers, or LGBT+. This commitment to inclusivity is reflected in the wide range of services offered by Vodafone, which aims to meet the needs of all its customers.
In summary, Vodafone's expansion of mobile broadband and 5G networks in the Göttingen district is a significant step towards improving connectivity and emergency services in the region. The company's focus on sustainability, diversity, and customer-centric services underscores its commitment to serving the needs of its customers and the wider community.
