PRS Auctions Unique Electric Guitar for Rainforest Conservation
PRS is auctioning off a unique electric guitar for charity, with all proceeds going to rainforest conservation. The guitar, a semi-hollow model, is made from wood salvaged after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in 2017. It's a physical tribute to Puerto Rican poet Lola Rodriquez de Tio's poem 'A Cuba', symbolizing the unity of Cuba and Puerto Rico.
The guitar's fretboard is crafted from highly regulated Brazilian rosewood, and the auction is open to US-based bidders only. It runs until October 10, 2025, at 12 pm Eastern Time, with bids accepted on eBay. The guitar features intricate detailing honoring its Cuban origins, including an Old Havana skyline inlay on the fretboard and a Cuban flag on the headstock. It's hand-signed by Paul Reed Smith and made with mahogany for the top, back, neck, and headstock veneer.
PRS has been celebrating its 40th anniversary this year by releasing special guitars each month. These include a T-type, Herman Li's signature guitar, and a guitar adorned with a dragon inlay. The guitar up for auction is a testament to PRS's commitment to craftsmanship and giving back. The wood used was originally intended for mulching as part of post-hurricane cleanup efforts, making this guitar a symbol of resilience and renewal.
The auction of this unique guitar not only offers music enthusiasts a chance to own a piece of history but also supports a vital cause. All proceeds will go to Cool Earth, a charity working with indigenous people to protect the world's rainforests. The guitar's journey, from hurricane aftermath to a symbol of unity and conservation, underscores the impact of climate change on rainforest regions and the importance of preserving them.
