At the event's conclusion, L-Acoustics revealed L-Acoustics DJ, an iPad app running on their patented L-ISA engine. This versatile application enables DJs and live musicians to effortlessly stem any stereo source into four distinct parts: Drums, Bass, Vocals, and Other. No signal degradation or quality loss, no glitches, and the whole process happens in an instant!
These expansive stems can then be bounced instantly to various speakers within a venue or performance space, bypassing the need for time-consuming spatial mix sessions. L-Acoustics' Director of Product Management, Scott Sugden, disclosed during the keynote that: "L-Acoustics DJ works with any type of source, from vinyl to digital, from CDJs to Ableton."
The software also boasts a stunning visualizer for users to see how the (color-coded) elements are traversing the 360-degree plane. Global and per-stem effects, such as rotating elements around the room, moving the vocal stem forward, or creating tension prior to a drop, further accentuate the spatial audio experience. Max Cooper, who played a key role in the development process, demonstrates this potential brilliantly on the Roundhouse’s stage.
Initial impressions of L-Acoustics DJ's user interface are favorable, as its simplicity belies the professional-grade L-ISA software within the live sound industry.
