Zed Run, a notable Ethereum NPR gaming platform, had to shut down in February. However, a fresh version of it is making its debut on Base on Monday.

Rebranded Ethereum NFT Horse Racing Platform: 'Zed Run' Transforms into 'Zed Champions'

Get ready to gallop into the future with Zed Champions, the latest offering from Virtually Human Studios on the Ethereum layer-2 network, Base, created by Coinbase.

Mark your calendars, because the grand launch is happening in less than 24 hours, on Monday at 8pm ET! This action-packed game will bring digital horse racing to a whole new level!

Just like its predecessor, Zed, players can race and breed digital horses. But here's the twist: in Zed Champions, horses will automatically match with others of similar skill levels, so you won't have to manually enter races!

VHS CEO Nir Efrat flaunts, "Zed Champions is the next leap for our platform. We've built a system where skill and strategy drive the outcome, appealing to both casual fans and seasoned players alike."

The game will heavily focus on the ZED token, Ethereum's native token, for entering races, breeding horses, and buying upgrades/power-ups. Each of the 4,320 horses in the game has an internal balance of ZED tokens based on its breeding price and race performance. A percentage of these tokens is at stake every time a horse competes, with the balance growing or shrinking according to its performance on the track.

If a horse's ZED token balance gets too low, it may be forced to retire, as per the game's website. Owners can decide to cash out their ZED tokens when retiring their horses.

Previously, Virtually Human Studios' digital horse racing game was a leader in the industry, serving as a gateway for the 2021 NFT bull run, landing collaborations with Budweiser and Stella Artois. In 2021, the company raised $20 million from TCG Capital Management and Andreeseen Horowitz.

Zed Run consistently registered millions of dollars in secondary trading volume every month, and horses traded for hundreds of thousands of dollars during the game's peak.

However, as NFT interest dwindled, so did interest in Zed Run. The game was shut down on February 28, with trading volume for NFTs plummeting afterwards. The original Zed Run NFTs are currently available on OpenSea for around $0.20 each.

Unfortunately, Zed Run horse NFTs on Polygon will not be transferrable to Zed Champions on Base. However, players who earned badges before Zed Run's shutdown were rewarded with race and breeding horses for Zed Champions, as per a January blog post.

"Zed Champions offers a clean slate. Everyone starts fresh," Efrat told Decrypt. "Legacy players were offered an opportunity to win rewards based on engagement and ownership to onboard into the new game. Returning users should be excited. It's a new era of Zed Run, under new leadership, we moved to Base, and leveraged the learnings from past mistakes to create a sustainable model for longevity and success."

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new game! Are you ready to ride the wave of digital horse racing on Zed Champions? See you there, unless you don't dig the idea of making some serious treasures!
