Sales breakdown for BYD in July: Qin sold 53,907 units, Song sold 52,648 units
BYD Reports July New Energy Vehicle Sales Figures
Chinese automaker BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has released its July new energy vehicle (NEV) sales figures, revealing a mixed performance across its various models and sub-brands.
Despite a year-on-year decrease of 0.56 percent in overall July sales, with 344,296 vehicles sold, there were some notable highlights. The BEV segment, for instance, experienced a strong year-on-year increase of 36.84 percent, reaching 177,887 units in July. However, this segment saw a month-on-month decline of 14.02 percent, marking the first monthly BEV drop since February.
The decline in July NEV sales growth compared to the previous year was primarily due to a significant drop in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales. While PHEV sales fell sharply by 22.61 percent year-on-year to 163,143 units, this segment was the main contributor to the overall sales slowdown.
Looking at model and sub-brand performance, the Qin series emerged as BYD’s best-selling lineup in July with 53,907 units sold, despite a 26.70 percent year-on-year sales drop. The Qin family benefited from a month-on-month bump of 22.40 percent.
The Song family, traditionally a strong seller, ranked second in July with 59,026 units but saw a 19.34 percent year-on-year and 10.81 percent month-on-month sales decline. The Song family includes both Dynasty series models and Ocean series models.
The BYD Seal model sold 46,850 units in July, ranking as the third-best seller for BYD that month. The personalized sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao sold 14,180 vehicles in July, showing a year-on-year increase of 669.82 percent but a decrease of 24.99 percent from June.
The premium Denza brand sold 11,375 units in July, showing a year-on-year increase of 10.01 percent but a decrease of 27.93 percent from June. The BYD Han sold 12,255 units in July, while the Ocean series sold 179,512 units in July, showing a year-on-year increase of 17.51 percent but a decrease of 8.77 percent from June.
Notably, the ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang sold 339 vehicles in July, experiencing a year-on-year decrease of 22.78 percent but an increase of 65.37 percent from June. The first model in the Sealion family, the Sealion 07 EV, was launched on May 10, 2024.
The total sales of BYD's passenger vehicles, including the Dynasty series and Ocean series, were 313,295 units in July, showing a year-on-year decrease of 3.81 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 6.83 percent. The e2 model sold 82 units in July, with a year-on-year decrease of 88.10 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 70.07 percent. The BYD Seagull sold 44,989 units in July.
This mixed picture indicates shifting consumer preferences within BYD’s NEV portfolio amid broader seasonal and market dynamics. The decline in July NEV sales growth compared to last year stemmed from weak PHEV demand, while BEV sales maintained solid long-term growth.
