Samsung Galaxy AI: An Overview of Phones, Bars, Gemini, and Other Essential Information
Samsung has announced an upgrade to its Galaxy AI, a collection of AI-powered smarts now available on newer Samsung devices like the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This AI-powered system offers a host of features designed to streamline daily tasks, improve user experiences, and provide personalised insights.
Cross-App Action and Video Editing Tools
One of the standout features of the S25 series is the Cross App Action capability, which allows users to perform numerous tasks across different apps with a single voice command. This functionality is exclusive to the S25 series and works seamlessly with native Google and Samsung apps.
Another noteworthy feature is the Instant Slow-Motion, which enables users to add slow motion to any video, even ones taken on older phones, by creating new frames using AI tricks. Additionally, the Auto Trim video-editing tool slices out "highlights" from up to 90 minutes of video, acting as a personal video editor to save time.
Google AI Features and More
Samsung's Galaxy AI shares AI tricks with Google, such as Circle to Search and Magic Compose. Furthermore, the AI Drawing Assist, introduced in 2024 and significantly overhauled in 2025, edits images based on text description or request, best suited for devices with an S Pen.
Agentic AI: Personal Data Engine
Samsung's Agentic AI, known as the Personal Data Engine (PDE), is integrated within the Galaxy ecosystem as a core component of Galaxy AI. This technology is designed to deliver deeply personalised experiences while maintaining strict data security and privacy.
The PDE forms the AI's foundation by collecting and managing sensitive personal data like routines and preferences entirely on-device to power features such as Now Brief and Smart Gallery search. This data remains encrypted and isolated within the device, ensuring privacy and security without needing to upload personal insights to the cloud.
Security and Privacy Measures
To securely support PDE and AI personalization, Samsung has introduced Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), a next-generation security architecture creating encrypted, app-specific environments within the secure storage area of the device. KEEP works with Knox Vault, Samsung’s tamper-resistant hardware security module, to protect personal AI data, assuring users that sensitive information cannot be accessed externally or cross-contaminated between apps.
Cross-Device Integration and Future Plans
Samsung envisions seamless transitions and consistent AI-driven interactions across Galaxy smartphones, watches, and other accessories (such as speakers or smart home devices). For example, initiating music playback on a phone can dynamically transfer to a Galaxy Home speaker as a user moves through their environment. The AI anticipates contexts and preferences across devices, moving towards a smart ambient intelligence experience.
The company plans to continue democratising this AI integration to 400 million devices by the end of 2025, emphasising seamless, personalised, and secure ambient intelligence tailored for everyday life.
Additional Features
Other features of the Galaxy AI include Now Bar, which integrates everyday actions and most-used apps into the lock screen, saving time with live notifications, music, routines, sports scores, and more. Generative Edit, another Galaxy AI feature, allows users to select something in a photo and transform, move, or remove that element.
Samsung's ultimate Galaxy AI aspirations are to make it an Agentic AI, a "true AI companion" that can analyse data and give unique insights. The company is rolling out this technology across its Galaxy phones, watches, and accessories, aiming to create an intelligent, anticipatory system that adapts seamlessly across devices.
