Samsung's latest offering, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, receives a first-hand examination, promising a refreshed experience.
Samsung has announced the latest addition to its foldable device lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The new device promises a more refined and powerful foldable experience, addressing some of the criticisms of its previous generations.
Design and Dimensions
The Fold 7 boasts a sleeker design, being significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It is only 8.9 mm thick when folded and an impressively slim 4.2 mm when unfolded. Weighing in at just 276 grams, it offers a comfortable and portable device that folds in a book-style, offering versatility for multitasking.
Display
The Fold 7 features a large 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main foldable screen and a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover screen with a wider 21:9 aspect ratio. Both displays support variable refresh rates up to 120Hz and achieve high brightness levels for excellent outdoor visibility. The inner screen now has a nearly imperceptible crease due to a new stronger and thicker "ultra-thin" glass layer, making the fold much smoother to the touch and visually less distracting.
Camera System
The rear camera setup is advanced, combining a 200MP wide-angle sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto (3x zoom). This configuration enables high-quality, crisp, and vivid photos with AI enhancements for low-light and noise reduction. The phone also has two 10MP selfie cameras — one on the cover display and one under the main foldable screen. AI features include an audio eraser for videos, reducing background noise automatically.
Performance and Hardware
The Fold 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, ensuring fast multitasking and gaming with an advanced cooling system to keep the device cool during intense use. It runs on Android 16 and supports Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7, enhancing connectivity.
Battery and Charging
The Fold 7 has a 4,400mAh battery with support for Super-Fast Charging, Wireless Charging, and PowerShare (reverse wireless charging).
Galaxy AI Integration
The device incorporates several AI features to improve user experience, such as seamless multitasking via voice commands, personalized insights with Now Brief, enhanced night video recording with noise reduction, optimized portrait selfies with Best Face, and easy photo searching in the gallery.
In addition, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers floating windows and dual-pane layouts for AI interactions. Samsung claims that battery life will be better on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 due to One UI and the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy.
Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers a sleek, lighter, and thinner foldable device with superior displays, flagship-level cameras, improved durability through better materials, and enhanced AI features, delivering a balance between phone portability and tablet functionality.
